HOW IT BEGAN

BROSIS COMMUNITY LIBRARY

Explore The First Ever Community Library In Lenana-Ng´ando - Dagoretti

A glimpse of Brosis´s children in the slum savoring the fruit of this progress. With limited area and limited English books to read, children and teens are still excited to discover different languages worldwide. Watching the youths reading foreign books even they do not understand made it more interesting, what will they find out and how it will change the way they want to see the world outside the slum.

The Brosis Library has multilingual books from around the world and a few English children´s books.

Brosis´s vision and mission;

  • To create a library in the slum for the children where reading and storytelling are an essential part of growing up for every child.

  • To welcome visitors from different countries and read books in their language to the children in the slum.

  • To establish itself as a community library center with computers where children in the slum can encourage each other to read and enjoy them with other kids.

  • To support literacy and ultimately to see our children in the slum succeed in school.

How Brosis Lenana Library Began.

Kennedy Oluoch took the initiative to make it happen. He built a small area where he lived and fixed the roof to set up a library. He made his bookshelves in the library. The expenses were minimal, and he and his volunteer friend paid it.

He put up this small library center for the children in his community.

Brosis LENANA LIBRARY Taking Shape

Finally, the view is clear! The hardest part of starting something is the greatest weakness of a founder or organizer.

Passion is what drives you; effort and attitude are what make it possible.
