Brosis Second Book Drive

The second book drive from a local family.

Being a volunteer in a new country, living in a new environment (in the slum), new neighbors, and new faces around.

How can a mzungu run a book drive, hah!?

Obviously, there is only one place on earth where anyone can do freely without being "seen" as a mzungu-- the internet!

There are many advantages when you have people around who do not know much about computers, and they will let you use their Facebook account, and voila--you have your own identity. Browsing to new territory, a new language, new group pages, and a new "Kenyan" persona thinking. #thiswillwork

Well, it did! The mzungu found a local online, a lady looking for a place where their family book collections will be taken care of and most beneficial. Thank you, Jesus!

Finally, the Brosis Library is taking shape at last. Now, a joint collection of books from different countries and the locals.

Thank you, Miss Susan Nyenga. Again, the children in the slum are thankful for all the books donated.

The Brosis Library has multilingual books from around the world and a few English children´s books.

Brosis´s vision and mission;

  • To create a library in the slum for the children where reading and storytelling are an essential part of growing up for every child.

  • To welcome visitors from different countries and read books in their own language to the children in the slum.

  • To establish itself as a community library center with computers where children in the slum can encourage each other to read and enjoy as a child with other kids.

  • To support literacy and ultimately to see our children in the slum succeed in school.
